On this day (28th July, 1950), the world’s first scheduled turbine-powered commercial air service flight operated between London (Northolt) and Paris (Le Bourget) with a Vickers V630 Viscount aircraft. The service was operated by British European Airways (BEA). The pilot of this momentous flight was Capt. Dick Rymer. The flight lasted 57 minutes, and on board were 12 guests of the airline and 14 fare-paying passengers.
A gas turbine-powered engine is a rotary engine that extracts energy from a flow of combustion gases. It has different types thus: turbojet, turbofan, turboprop, and turboshaft. Turbofan is the one in use on aircrafts like B-747, A-300, CRJ Series, etc.
