On June 1, 2009, a AF447’s A330 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 people on board and becoming the deadliest aviation accident involving Airbus A330. Air France Flight 447, an Airbus A330-200 was a regularly scheduled international passenger flight from Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport, RJ (GIG), Brazil, to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), France. Unfortunately, in the early morning hours of June 1, 2009, the plane crashed into the mid Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 passengers and crew on board.
Major wreckage and two bodies were recovered within five days of the accident while the aircraft’s flight recorders were not recovered from the ocean floor until May 2011. After AF447’s black-box recordings surfaced, Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA)‘s final report revealed that the aircraft speed sensors became iced over, obstructing the aircraft’s pitot tubes—which caused the autopilot to disconnect. In the ensuing confusion, the crew reacted incorrectly to the abnormality and lost control of the airplane.
