Embraer – the third largest producer of civil aircraft was founded on 19th August 1969. It is the leading provider of regional jets worldwide. The Brazilian government started Embraer as a wholly-owned government company “Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica.” The code for their first aircraft series was EMB 110, leaving “EMB 100” only for the first three prototypes. It initially focused primarily on supplying military aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force, but by the 1980s, it began producing a series of successful commuter and regional airliners for export.
The company was privatized in 1994 and began expanding to the production of larger regional airliners and smaller business jets.
