On October 7, 1919, Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij N.V., operating under the name KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, was founded by Albert Plesman. KLM is a subsidiary of the Air France, and the flag carrier of the Netherlands headquartered in Amstelveen. It is the oldest carrier in the world still operating under its original name, though the company paused operations during the Second World War.
