On May 26, 1999, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) was established by decree 49 of 1999 with operational start-off on January 1, 2000. This was in line with ICAO’s prescription that Contracting States should establish an appropriate state body to be known as the Civil Aviation Authority which would be given the necessary empowerment to ensure compliance with air navigation regulations promulgated by the State.
NCAA is responsible for all civil aviation regulatory functions (economic regulation, airspace policy, safety policy, and consumer protection) in Nigeria as a Contracting State.
