In 1955, Delta Airline pioneered the use of the hub and spoke system. Using this model, scheduled flights conveyed passengers to a hub airport where travelers connected to other Delta flights. The hub and spoke model is an efficient transportation model that simplifies the transportation mechanism by creating a hub, and connecting it to the end units through spokes.
A Hub is the central airport that flights are routed through, and Spokes are the routes that aircrafts take out of the hub airport.
