On 12 April 1942, the first plane crash in Nigeria was at Ikogosi in Ekiti West Local Government Area of (today) Ekiti State during the war years.
According to Premium Times, one of the elders of the community, Pa Olu Adeniyi, who claimed to have witnessed the crash said it was a war plane that contained arms and ammunition, including explosives that went off with loud bang throughout the night.
Till this moment, the relics of the two engines of the plane and other body parts (aluminium and metal materials) can be found at the site.
This crash is also recorded as the first plane crash in Africa.
